BASIC FIRST AID COURSES
The following courses
OFA Level 1, 2 & 3 and transport (TE) meet the Work Safe B.C. Occupational First Aid Attendant (OFA) requirements.

Work Safe BC. or St John's Ambulance (OFA) Level 1
8:30 am - 4:30 pm (8 hrs)
This is a fast paced one-day course teaching basic life saving first aid procedures for adults. It includes practical skills that can be applied at the scene of an accident. Instruction focuses on the priority action approach (emergency scene management) for adults experiencing the following medical conditions: airway obstruction, breathing distress or absence, shock, serious bleeding, minor wound care, burns & eye injury. This course is recommended for adult workers in industry.

Work Safe B.C.
(OFA) Level 2
8 am - 4 pm daily (40 hrs min + 4-6 hr Exam).
This course is designed to teach first aid attendants advanced first aid techniques to sustain life until paramedics arrive, or the patient can be transferred to the local hospital in under 20 minutes.
A physical exam plus picture ID is required prior to taking the course.

Certificate: 2 yrs BC (3 yrs out of province)

Work Safe B.C. (OFA) Level 3
8 am - 4 pm daily (80 hrs min + 4-6 hr Exam)
This course is designed for first aid attendants in industry who are located more than 1 hour from a hospital. It teaches advanced medical techniques for sustaining life and transferring a patient to a hospital setting following the priority action approach, including anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, medical referral, resuscitation with oral airway, pocket mask, BVM, and suction, Oxygen Therapy, immobilization with backboard and hard collar and much more.
A medical physical exam plus picture ID is required prior to taking the course.
Certificate: 2 yrs BC (3 yrs out of province)

Pro-Course for Level 3
40 hrs + 4-6 hr Exam Class time 8 am - 4 pm daily
This is a re-certification course for students who have taken a Level 3 Work Safe BC course previously and still hold a valid certificate.

Spinal Immobilization and Transportation (TE )
8:30 am - 4:30 pm (8 hrs)
This one-day course is supplemental to OFA-Level 1 (or equivalent). The instruction will provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to transport ill or injured workers to medical aid.

Automated External De-fibrillation AED

8 am – 12:15 pm or 1 - 4:15 pm (4 hrs)
This half-day course is appropriate for the general public, workplace first aiders, OFA attendants and those whose environment may require them to perform CPR or AED. (The course can be combined with CPR-C as shown below.) This course follows the guidelines for Basic Life Support CPR & AED.
Pre-requisite: Must have CPR or equivalent certificate.

This one-day course teaches life saving protocols for all types of casualties affecting adults, children or infants. It is intended for people who have a duty to respond to a medical emergency in a pre- hospital care environment. The course is designed for workplace first aiders, police, firefighters, lifeguards, ski patrol, coaches and others that may need to perform CPR on adults, children or infants in the community or workplace.
This is also for you if you have a family member who is at risk of cardiovascular emergency.

Re-certification recommended annually.

Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED
8.30 am - 5.00 pm for two days (16 hrs)
This comprehensive 2-day course offers First Aid & CPR techniques to teach the general public to be able to respond to emergency situations involving adults, children or infants. Students will develop skills to feel confident in dealing with the following emergencies: bone, joint & spinal injuries, shock, severe bleeds, environmental injuries and secondary surveys.
This course is particularly recommended for outdoor enthusiasts.

Emergency Child Care:
1st Aid & CPR-C
8.30am – 5.30pm
Prerequisite: must be physically able to perform the skills.
A one-day course teaching basic first aid and life saving protocols for children of all ages. Participants will learn how to assess the scene of an emergency situation and determine the appropriate sequence & priority of first aid treatments.
This course is highly recommended for professionals who care for babies and children.
This course is not equivalent to Level 1 Occupational First Aid.
