WORKPLACE FIRST AID COURSES
The following courses OFA Level 1, 2 & 3 and Transport Endorsement(TE) meet the Work Safe B.C. Occupational First Aid Attendant (OFA) requirements.
The purpose of occupational first aid is to provide workers with prompt, easily accessible, and appropriate first aid treatment and to keep a record of each treatment. Depending on the workplace, some or all of the following are needed to accomplish this:
- Occupational first aid attendants with the appropriate level of training
- Facilities such as first aid rooms or dressing stations
- First aid boxes or kits with the appropriate types and quantities of supplies
- Recordkeeping system
- Appropriate means of transporting an injured worker to a first aid facility or a hospital
- Effective means of communication between first aid attendants and workers who may need their help
All Certificates for Work Safe BC have a 3 yr. duration
All course required for work are tax exempt

Work Safe BC (OFA) Level 1
8 hrs
This is a fast paced, one-day course, teaching basic life saving first aid procedures, including CPR & AED for adults.(CPR-A)
It includes practical skills that can be applied at the scene of an accident. Instruction focuses on the Priority Action Approach, emergency scene management for adults experiencing the following medical conditions: Airway obstruction, shortness of breath, cardiac arrest , shock, serious bleeding, minor wound care, burns & eye injury.
This course is recommended for adult workers in business or industrial settings.
Min age: 16 yrs
Max class size: 18
Photo ID is required.

Work Safe B.C. (OFA) Level 2
40 hrs min + Exam day.
This course is designed to teach advanced first aid techniques, to sustain life until paramedics arrive
It includes practical skills that can be applied at the scene of an accident. Instruction focuses on the Priority Action Approach for adults experiencing the following medical conditions: Airway obstruction, shortness of breath, cardiac arrest , shock, serious bleeding, minor wound care, burns & eye injury.
It also includes fracture management and airway management, using oral airways,bag valve masks and oxygen administrtion.
Picture ID and a statement of fitness form is required prior to taking the course.
In some circumstances students may require a physical exam, this is no longer manadatory.

Work Safe B.C. (OFA) Level 3
80 hrs min + a full day Exam
This course includes CPR-A & AED It teaches advanced medical techniques for sustaining life and transferring a patient to a hospital setting following the Priority Action Approach. The course includes anatomy, physiology, patient assessment, and medical referral. Techniques taught incude; resuscitation with oral airway, pocket mask, bag valve mask, and suction and oxygen administration. Spinal immobilization with backboard and hard collar, fracture management, would care burns, eye injuries and other medical emergencies.
Picture ID is required, plus completion of a statement of fitness form, prior to taking the course.
In some circumstances students may require a physical exam, this is no longer mandatory.

Level 3 Refresher
40 hrs + full day Exam
This is a re-certification course for students who have previously taken a Level 3 Work Safe BC course and still hold a valid certificate.
Completion of a stement of fitness plus picture ID is required prior to taking the course.

OFA Level 3 Exam Challenge
This course is for individuals who have previously taken the OFA Level 3 course and have a certificate that has been expired for less than 2 years. Or for students who have not previously taken OFA level 3 but have Paramednic or a minimum 70 hr. pre-hospital first aid training, may challenge the exam.
It is strongly recommended students attend at least two days of OFA Level 3 classes prior to taking the exam. to experience Level 3 exam protocols For students who have not previously taken OFA Level 3 with Vital Training the instruction cost is $100 per day. Purchase of an up to date student mannual & binder is highly recommended

Transportation Endorsement
8 hrs
This one-day course, which requires a student to have a current level 1 certificate.
This class focuses on teaching the techniques required for preparing a patient for transport; including advanced airway management & spinal Immobilization.
Class size: 12 students
Certificate: It is important to take this course in closely following a Level 1 course.
The certificate is valid for 3 yrs with an up to date Level 1 certificate.

Emergency First Aid -Child & Community Care, ECC
8 hrs
Prerequisite: must be physically able to perform the skills.
A one-day course teaching basic first aid and life saving protocols for children of all ages. Participants will learn how to assess the scene of an emergency situation and determine the appropriate sequence & priority of first aid treatments.
This course is highly recommended for professionals who care for babies and children.
This course is not equivalent to Level 1 Occupational First Aid.
